Coach Sarah Hendricks' Penn Volleyball Team locked up a share of the Northern Indiana Conference title with a 25-20, 25-18, 21-25, 25-11 victory at South Bend St. Joseph.

Penn and St. Joe entered the NIC showdown each with 10-0 records. 

If Penn beats Mishawaka on Thursday (Oct. 5), or St. Joseph loses its league finale, the Kingsmen will win the NIC Championship outright.

Italia Fields led the Kingsman with 17 kills followed, by Alyssa Torres with 13 kills. Ally Hickey racked up 10 kills. 

Naomi Willis had 39 assists.

Rachel Hickey led Penn with an amazing 43 digs, followed by Sophia Cruz, who had 17 digs. Kylee Hixenbaugh had 15 digs and Julia Beers had 13 digs.

Penn Volleyball is 27-4-0 overall.

Penn’s Kingsmen fought back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat South Bend Adams, 3-2, in the Class 3-A South Bend Sectional semifinal on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

Coach Josh Nakayama’s Kingsmen, ranked No. 6 in the state, take a 14-1-2 record into the Sectional Championship match against South Bend Riley. The title game is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday at South Bend’s Tallman/Beyrer Field in the School Field complex.

Penn unleashed a fast and furious attack after Adams took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute. Micah Craig got the Kingsmen on the board first with a free-kick goal in the 33rd minute.

Craig scored his second goal with a clinical finish from the corner off an assist from Sammy Atkins to put the Kingsmen up 2-1 over the Eagles in the 62nd minute.

Atkins blasted a laser off an assist from Micah Craig to put the Kingsmen up 3-1 over the Eagles in the 70th minute.

Penn’s Volleyball Team, coached by Sarah Hendricks, clinched a share of the Northern Indiana Conference Championship with a 3-1 victory against South Bend St. Joseph on Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Penn rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat South Bend Adams, 3-2, in the first round of the Class 3-A Sectional at South Bend’s Tallman/Beyrer Field on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

Penn opens the 2017 Football Class 6-A playoffs on the road at Valparaiso on Friday, Oct. 27. 

Penn is fourth in the state in most sectional Championships in Football (23) and the Kingsmen have won four consecutive Sectional Championships. Penn owns five State Championships in Football.

Penn and Valparaiso are each 6-1. 

Valpo defeated the Kingsmen 12-7 on Friday, Aug. 18, in the season opener. Penn has won six games since the season opener.

Chesterton (3-4) plays at Warsaw (4-3) in the other Sectional 2 Game. 

The Sectional 2 Championship Game is set for Friday, Nov. 3.

Admission is $6 a person.

Penn captured its 16th consecutive Sectional Championship in Boys Tennis, beating Marian, 5-0, in the Championship match on Thursday, Sept. 28. The Kingsmen beat Mishawaka, 5-0, on Wednesday, Sept. 27, to advance to the Championship match.

A.J. Antonelli highlighted the victory with a gutty 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles against Cameron Rafinski of Marian. The match lasted nearly four hours.

Penn Sophomore Lyvia Li finished 29th in the Indiana High School Golf State Championships on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Li shot a 19-over 163 (80-83) on the Prairie View Golf Club Course in Carmel, Ind.

The Penn High School Boys Soccer state run starts this week with the sectionals. 

Penn will be playing at Tallman-Beyrer Field (School Field) in South Bend. The sectional includes the Kingsmen and host South Bend Adams, South Bend Riley, South Bend Clay, Mishawaka and La Porte. 

State tournament action starts on Monday, Oct. 2, at 5 p.m when Riley takes on LaPorte, followed by Clay and Mishawaka.

Wednesday's first match will be a meeting between Monday's winners at 5 p.m. followed by Penn vs. Adams at 7 p.m.

The championship match is on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Session ticket prices are $6 and Season tickets are $10, there is no charge for pre-school children who will be seated with their adult.

Defending State Champion Penn opens the state tournament at home with a first-round Sectional game against South Bend Riley on Tuesday, Oct. 3.

The Kingsmen, who are ranked No. 2 in the nation, play Riley at 6 p.m.

Sectional Semifinal action on Thursday will feature the winner of the Penn-Riley game playing South Bend Adams at 5:30 p.m., followed by the LaPorte-Mishawaka game.

The Sectional Championship Game is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7.

Tickets will cost $6 for a single session and a season ticket for the entire tournament is $10.

Penn's Football team struck early and often in rolling past South Bend Clay, 58-6, on Friday, Sept. 29.

Penn led 45-0 after one quarter and led 58-0 at halftime. Clay scored on the last play of the game.

Hunter Whitlow got the Kingsmen rolling when he bolted for nine yards for a TD. Ryan Whiteman ran for the two-point PAT.

Penn's Wild Bunch defense struck for the next touchdown. Leegrand Alovili recovered a fumble in the end zone that was forced by James Morris.

Brock Boynton hauled in a seven-yard TD strike from Ryan Lynch to push the Kingsmen lead to 22-0.

Lynch connected with Zach Usenick for a 39-yard TD pass as the Kingsmen lead grew to 29-0.

Paul Moala broke loose for a 48-yard punt return touchdown.

A safety by Rockne Hurley gave Penn a 38-0 lead.

Brock Zolman's electrifying 57-yard TD run finished off the Penn scoring assault in the first quarter and made the score 45-0.

Jeremiah Gosztola scored a touchdown on a four-yard pass from Ron Powlus.

Patrick Maclin raced 18 yards to finish the Kingsmen scoring.
