Auxiliary Gym
The Auxiliary Gym hosts Girls and Boys Varsity, Junior Varsity and Freshmen Basketball, Volleyball and Wrestling, as well as Wellness classes. The Auxiliary Gym seats 1,400 (700 on either side of the gym), and has a P.A. system and two LED scoreboards.
The Auxiliary Gym also has efficient instant indoor illumination (80-plus lumens). There are also three indoor batting cages in the Auxiliary gym. The Auxiliary Gym can be accessed by entering Door C (center front of the school building) and walking past the Arena toward the south side of the high school.

Lionshead Specialty Tire and Wheel Soccer Field
Both Penn Boys and Girls Soccer teams play at Lionshead Specialty Tire and Wheel Soccer Field. It is located north of the high school, and east of the Educational Services Center off of Bittersweet Rd. The synthetic field is 70 yards by 120 yards. The field is fully lighted for night games, and features an LED scoreboard. There covered concrete dugouts.
The concession stand and restroom facilities are located in the nearby softball pressbox. The bleacher seating capacity is 800. Lionshead Specialty Tire and Wheel Soccer Field has hosted IHSAA sectional and regional events. The soccer field is fully enclosed by fencing, and also hosts youth camps and Wellness class events.

Knollwood Country Club Golf Course
Penn holds all of its home Boys and Girls Golf matches and practices at Knollwood Country Club, 16633 Baywood Lane, Granger, Indiana. There are 36 holes at Knollwood. The par for boys matches is 72, and the par for girls matches is also 72. The courses cover more than 400 acres of tree-lined, gently rolling terrain. This is a private course and is not open to the public.

May Oberfell Lorber Softball Field
The Penn High School Softball Field is sponsored by May Oberfell Lorber Law Firm. The complex is located north of Penn High School and the Educational Services Center off of Bitterweet Rd., and just south of U.S. 20. It has an artificial turf surface that was installed in 2019. There is an estimated seating capacity of more than 500.
The visitor and home-team sides feature bleachers on each the visitor and home team’s side. There is also open fencing along the backstop to allow people to bring lawn chairs and get a view from behind the plate. Additional seating can be brought in for special tournament events. The fences are 215 feet from home plate to right field and also 215 feet to left field, and 220 feet to center field. The field has full lighting for night games, and has hosted IHSAA sectional and regional events.
The softball field also has enclosed concrete dugouts on the first-base and third-base sides, as well as batting cages for home and visiting teams. There is also a junior varsity field located adjacent to the the varsity field.
The permanent press box facility also has a concession stand and restroom facilities.

Dar and Dot Wiekamp Tennis Courts
The Penn High School tennis courts are sponsored by The Dar and Dot Wiekamp family. The tennis courts are outdoor public courts and are fully lighted. The tennis courts are north of the high school building, just north of the Educational Services Center off of Bittersweet Rd.
There are 10 hard-style tennis courts built in 2008 at the Penn High School tennis facility. The courts are green on the interior of the courts and red on the outside.
The Dar and Dot Wiekamp tennis courts are free to the community for individual use, and also host Penn summer camps and are used for Penn High School and Schmucker Middle School Wellness classes.
The Penn High School tennis facility is the host of multiple tennis tournaments during the boys and girls tennis season and also hosts Indiana High School Athletic Association sectional championship events.
Fan seating, including bleacher seats, is available inside and outside of the complex.

There are a total of 1,528 parking spaces at Penn High School and the surrounding campus that includes Pennway, Schmucker Middle School and Bittersweet Elementary School. The 1,528 parking spaces include 53 spaces reserved for handicapped parking. These lots are located conveniently close to Penn High and its athletic venues.
Penn’s main parking lot – located off of Bittersweet Road – is adjacent to the Arena and Pool entrance, and is close to the TCU Freed Field gates. It offers 870 spaces, with 29 reserved for handicapped parking.
Visitor Parking

Visitors arriving by car should enter at the Bittersweet Road / Filmore Street traffic signal on the west side of the school, then follow signs to designated parking areas near the main entrance, Door A. You will be admitted at Door A, greeted and provided a Guest ID badge, then assisted in reaching the appropriate office or area.
Parents/Guardians picking up students who have early dismissal can pull up near Door C , where students with early dismissal are released.

Arena
The Penn High School Arena and Al Rhodes Court is home to Boys and Girls Basketball, Volleyball, Wrestling, Poms and Wellness class events.
Capacity seating for the Arena is 3,300, with 1,268 seats in the lower Arena. The Arena features a two-tone wood playing surface that was resurfaced in 2010, and has three LED scoreboards and efficient instant indoor illumination (80-plus lumens). There are adjacent male and female locker rooms in the Arena, and an additional six male and female locker rooms nearby. The Arena features the Tradewinds Restaurant Concession Stand in the northeast corner of the upper Arena. There is also a concession stand in the northwest corner of the upper Arena. The Arena complex also has four public restrooms.
Penn’s Arena has hosted numerous IHSAA sectional and regional events.
The Arena is located on the north side of Penn High School, and can be accessed by Door D from the front of the high school off of Bittersweet Rd.

Greg Dikos Baseball Field
Greg Dikos Baseball Field at Jordan Automotive Baseball Stadium, located just north of the main Penn High School building off of Bittersweet Rd., has a seating capacity of more than 1,200. Bleachers are constructed behind both the home-team dugout and the visiting-team dugout. There is also lawn seating inside the complex. Additional seating can be brought in for special tournament events. The field has an artificial turf surface that was installed in 2019. The dimensions of the field are: 315 feet to the left-field foul pole. 380 feet to the center-field fence, and 315 feet to the right-field foul pole. The backstop area is 40 feet. There are enclosed concrete dugouts on the first-base and third-base sides, as well as batting cages. Dikos Field has lighting for night games, and has hosted IHSAA sectional and regional events. The permanent press-box structure also houses a concession stand and restroom facilities. There is also a baseball junior varsity/freshmen baseball field located east of the softball complex off of U.S. 20.

Everwise Freed Field
Everwise Freed Field, located on the east side of Penn High School, is a state-of-the-art facility that is home to Penn High School Football, Boys and Girls Track and Field, and Unified Track and Field. Everwise Freed Field also hosts band competitions, the Silver Mile, intramural sports events, youth sports camps and athletic training events and Penn High School Wellness classes.
With a seating capacity of 8,000, Everwise Freed Field is one of the largest high school football venues in the state of Indiana. There are 4,500 seats on the home side, and 3,500 seats on the visitor’s side. Additional bleachers can also be brought in for special events.
Everwise Freed Field features an AstroTurf multi-purpose synthetic surface that was installed in 2010.
Surrounding the football field is a Martin Surface all-weather 400-meter eight-lane track that hosts IHSAA Sectional events. There are dual facilities in the track complex for high jump, long jump and pole vault, allowing for flexibility due to weather.
The football field has full lighting and LED scoreboards.
Everwise Freed Field also features the Zolman’s Tire & Auto Care North Concession Stand. There is also a concession stand in the south end of the football field complex. There are restroom facilities at the north end. The concession stands and restrooms were renovated in 2014. There is a natural grass practice field located adjacent to the varsity field.
Freed Field was constructed in 1958 and named for former Penn Twp. Trustee Vernon Freed.
Starting with the 2015 season, community partner Everwise obtained naming rights to Penn’s home football field. Also in 2015, Zolman’s Tire & Auto Care was granted naming rights for the north concession stand.
Attendance
Parents now have the ability to submit attendance reasons through Skyward Family Access instead of calling the school. Attendance can be entered on that day (illness) or for future events (doctor’s appointment). Absences can be recorded for all day, late arrival or early dismissal. To report your student absence via telephone, please us the user prompts below:
- Parents or guardians of a Penn student, call 574-258-9501 to report absences.
- When calling, please briefly provide the student’s full name (always spell the last name), the student’s ID number, the reason for absence or dismissal, and, in case of the need to call back, a contact phone number.
Please listen carefully to the three different Attendance prompts. They are as follows:
- To report an early dismissal for TODAY, press 1. This would include, for example, an appointment, family emergency, etc., that will take place during the current school day. Include a time for the early dismissal, and the reason.
- To report a dismissal/absence for a FUTURE DATE, press 2. This would include an appointment, college visit, family event, etc., that would be taking place on a future school day. Please include a date, time and reason for the absence/early dismissal. In the case of a series of appointments, at a particular time and day repeated throughout the school year, contact Attendance Secretary Karen Rallo – krallo@phm.k12.in.us or call 574-254-2828 – to set up a schedule.
- To report an ILLNESS TODAY or a LATE ARRIVAL TODAY, press 3. Please provide a short comment regarding the illness, i.e. the flu, cold, etc. In the case of a long-term illness, in addition to contacting the attendance office, please contact the student’s counselor and nurse. For reporting a late arrival, please state the reason and approximate time of arrival.
- If a student is absent for 10 (or more) consecutive school days, please contact Attendance Secretaries Karen Rallo or Karisa Buckwheat. Per Indiana state policy, a doctor’s note is required for a medical absence of 10 days or more.
- To question an unconfirmed absence, please e-mail the student’s teacher. Staff Directory.

Students who will be out of school for a college visit will need to bring back to Penn a note on college letterhead verifying the date. Absences due to Job Shadowing experiences and Youth Leadership events will also need to be verified.
Parents may call up to one month in advance of planned absences/early dismissals.
