Science Olympiad

The purpose of the Club: to improve the quality of K-12 science education, increase opportunity and diversity in science, create a technologically-literate workforce and provide recognition for outstanding achievement by both students and teachers.
There will be club does of $15.
The aim of Science Olympiad is to foster the love of science and increase engagement among STEM-inclined students looking to pursue career opportunities in a specific field through hands-on participation with self and teams at local competitions.
National Art Honor Society

The purpose of the National Art Honor Society is to bring scholarship and community service together in a format that ties to Fine Arts.
The aim of the Penn High School National Art Honor Society Club is to give students a space to volunteer in art-centric ways that benefit the school community and the greater area around us. This can include, but are not limited to: murals, beautification of spaces, art activities for kids, workshops, fundraisers, and ways to provide art in an accessible format.
Membership:
- Section A – All members must currently be enrolled at Penn High School.
- Section B – The Penn High School National Art Honor Society is open to all students who have taken a semester of art and a higher than 3.00 cumulative GPA
- Section C – Membership is open to all without regard to race, religion, gender, or national origin.
- Section D – Membership shall be granted to students who have met the requirements in Article III Section A and have filled out an application which shall be available at the orientation meeting.
There will be club dues of $25 for the 2024-2025 school year.
Regularly scheduled meetings will be held once a month with frequent art-making opportunities and community outreach available throughout the year on dates as provided.
Asian Culture Club

The purpose of ACC is to expand the knowledge of Asian culture (including, but not limited to South, East, and Southeast Asia) in an enjoyable, yet educational manner.
Regularly scheduled meetings will be held every third Wednesday (unless scheduled otherwise) from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Contact club sponsor for meeting information.

Penn’s Samantha Buckwheat earns National Gold Key Award
Penn High School’s Samantha Buckwheat earned a 2024 National Gold Key Award in the Scholastic Art and Writing contest.
Buckwheat, Class of 2024, will have her photography artwork, “Brothers”, on display in New York City.
Buckwheat’s Photograpy instructor is Betsy Dunham.
Women of Color Coalition

The aim of the Penn High School Women of Color Coalition Club is to provide a supportive and understanding environment for women of color and everyone.
The purpose of the Women of Color Coalition is to strengthen the community of women within Penn and prepare them for life beyond it. The coalition will offer not only a support group for WOC but also resources on how to become a strong and independent woman in society.
Dues are $10 a year.

MARS (Multidisciplinary Academic Research Society

MARS, or the Multidisciplinary Academic Research Society, will invite academics from different fields to give short talks about what they do and assist students who may want to pursue that field. The goal of MARS is to provide students with the knowledge and opportunities consisting within the academic research professions.
The Multidisciplinary Academic Research Society (MARS) is determined to enable students to discover and explore their research interests. MARS values the pursuit of knowledge and critical thinking, and develops those skills within its members.
MARS Club meets in Room 232 on Gold Mondays after school.
Penn Political Awareness Club
Sponsor: Dawn Troyer.
Mission Statement: To educate students on the importance of civic engagement, to empower students to be involved with the issues important to them, and to engage students with one another to promote healthy, bi-partisan discourse and discussion.
Meeting Schedule: Bi-monthly throughout the first semester in Room 161/163, with specialty meetings as needed leading up to Election Day 2024. Second-semester meeting frequency will be determined at the conclusion of the first semester.
Possible Activities:
- Current event discussion
- Connection with action committees and campaigns
- Elected official guest speakers
- Promoting students to spread the importance of Registering to Vote
- Encouraging students to volunteer to become Poll Workers on Election Day
- Encourage healthy communication, political engagement, and civil involvement skills for life
Diversify Our Narrative
Diversify Our Narrative (DON) is sponsored by William Irons.
Penn’s Diversify Our Narrative Chapter is part of a national nonprofit focused on promoting inclusivity in education. Through various community activities, it amplifies the diverse student voices at Penn High School, aiming to create a more welcoming and inclusive learning environment.
Penn’s DON Chapter Mission Statement: “To shape tomorrow’s change-makers and build an inclusive future through education.”
Diversify our Narrative hopes to:
- Host community fairs/events
- Collaborate with other student organizations/unions at Penn
- Create spaces for students’ voices and experiences to be heard within their school
