The Penn Kingsmen Powder Puff teams play on Wednesday, September 13 at TCU/Freed Field at 7 p.m.

Powder Puff (essentially girls flag football) is split up by class. There are four 20-minute running-clock games.

In the first round, the seniors will play the sophomores, and the freshman will play the juniors. Whoever wins the senior/sophomore game, plays the winner of the freshman/junior game.

The players are coached by Penn Football players and teachers.

“Powder Puff is a great way to have some competitive fun, and beat the underclassmen,” Penn senior Camille Rose said of what Powder Puff means to her as a senior.

Penn outlasted Marian last night in a match-up of Northern Indiana Conference Volleyball powerhouses.

Penn took an early lead as the Kingsmen won the first two sets 25-22, and 25-23. Marian stormed back to win the third set 25-22. Penn closed out strong to win the final set 25-22 and earn the victory.

Penn, ranked No. 6 in the state,  moves to 13-1-0.

Italia Fields led the Kingsmen with 14 kills.

Alyssa Torres and Kylee Hixenbaugh both had 13 kills, and Rachel Rupert had 11 kills.

Naomi Willis helped out with 46 assists.

Rachel Hickey had 40 digs. followed by Ally Hickey and Julia Beers with 17 digs each.

Naomi Willis and Kylee Hickenbaugh chipped in with 14 and 12 digs.

Penn Volleyball’s next match is home on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. against Jimtown.

The Penn Girls Soccer Team, ranked No. 1 in the Nation, defeated Munster 2-0 on Saturday, Aug. 26.

Dorian Clayton scored three goals to lead the attack as the Penn Boys Soccer Team rolled past Glenn, 8-0, in Northern Indiana Conference action on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Micah Craig and Sammy Atkins scored two goals each, and Max Bender scored one goal for the Kingsmen.

Aron Janko delivered four assists to ignite the Gold & Black attack.

Penn High’s Girls Golf Team finished the 2017 Northern Indiana Conference regular season with a 12-0 record as the Kingsmen defeated South Bend St. Joseph and Marian on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Penn won the match with a score of 182. St. Joe placed second with a 204, and Marian placed third at 217.

Penn's Bryan Mai defeated Johnny Anderson, 6-2, 6-0, in the only match that was contested in the Northern Indiana Conference tennis match between the Kingsmen and South Bend Clay on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Penn won the other four matches by forfeit.

Penn High’s Football Team boasted strong contributions from the offense, defense and special teams in a 38-0 victory against Brother Rice on Friday, Sept. 1. The game was played at Berkley High School in Berkley, Mich.

Penn’s offense started the game with a sustained drive that resulted in an 18-yard TD run by Ryan Whiteman. Caden Paquette kicked the extra point for a 7-0 Kingsmen lead.

Corey Warner put the ball right back in Kingsmen hands, recovering a fumble on the ensuing kickoff at the Brother Rice 25.

Whiteman scored his second TD, a 10-yard run. Paquette’s kick made it 14-0 Kingsmen in the first quarter.

Lightning struck again, as Penn hitman Ryan Schmitt recovered a Warrior fumble on the kickoff.

Caden Paquette finished the drive with a 23-yard field goal.

Brock Boynton then jolted the Warriors with an electrifying 50-yard punt return for a touchdown with 11:03 left in the second quarter. Caden Paquette kicked the extra point to make it 24-0 in favor of Penn.

Penn stung the Warriors to open the second half with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Paul Moala. The extra-point kick by Caden Paquette made it 31-0 Kingsmen.

A 23-yard TD strike from Ron Powlus to Zach Usenick wrapped up the Kingsmen scoring. Caden Paquette kicked the extra point to make the final score 38-0.

Penn’s Kingsmen won a fierce battled against Merrillville, 7-0, on Friday, Aug. 26.

Ryan Whiteman broke loose to score the Kingsmen touchdown, sprinting 88 yards to put Penn on the board.

Division I prospect Paul Moala made a huge impact on the game.

Moala made a touchdown-saving tackle late in the second quarter, and then blocked a subsequent field-goal attempt.

Moala intercepted a pass at the Penn 26 to end a fourth-quarter Merrillville drive.

Penn’s defense shined, and Paul Moala gave the offense a big spark, but the Kingsmen suffered a 12-7 defeat in the high school football season opener at Valparaiso.

Valpo’s victory was its first against Penn since 2010.

Moala caught a pass from Ryan Lynch and raced 33 yards for the touchdown.

Penn smacked archrival Mishawaka, 28-0, in Junior Varsity Football action on Saturday, Sept. 2.

Trenton Horvath, Tyron Robinson, Michael Garcia and Patrick Maclin scored touchdowns for the Kingsmen.

Alex Kennach kicked 4 PATs.
