The Penn Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams dominated the Northern Indiana Conference Championships on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Penn’s Girls Cross Country Team finished the 13-team race with 27 points, followed by South Bend Adams with 61 points. Mishawaka was third with 66 points. Penn placed seven runners in the Top 15.

Lauren Frank won the NIC Girls Individual Championship for the third consecutive season. Frank ran the 5K-course at Ox Bow Park in 19:00.5.

Dani Spring of Penn was second in 19:11.5. Ellie Jankowski placed sixth in 20:02.1, and Brooke Neal placed seventh in 20:09.2

Frank, Spring, Jankowski and Neal were named first-team all-NIC.

Reagan Hoke was 11^th in 20:31.5, Aislynn Alkire was 14^th in 20:36.3, and Kayla Edgerly was 15^th in 20:37.1. Hoke, Alkire and Edgerly were each named second-team all-NIC.

“The Lady Kingsment ran strong today,” Penn coach Michael Clements said. “This was a great win to kick off the post-season for us, and I'm fired up for what we can potentially do over the next four weeks.

“The day started fantastic with most of our girls in the JV race running all-time PRs, and the Varsity fed off of that excitement with some impressive runs of their own.  It was particularly fun to see Lauren and Dani race in their last NIC meet where they were able to go 1-2 overall on their Senior Night while Ellie and Brooke were able to capture some 1st Team All-NIC accolades of their own.”

The Penn Boys Cross Country Team placed first with 33 points. New Prairie was second in the 13-team field with 84 points, and South Bend Riley was third with 87 points. Penn placed three runners in the Top 5 and five runners in the Top 15.

Penn’s Colton Shail placed second in a time of 16:21.0. Matt Long was third in 16:21.3. Curtis Cornell placed fifth in 16:33.0.

Shail, Long and Cornell were named first-team all-NIC.

Chandler Neal of Penn placed 10^th in 16:45.4, Chad Piatt was 13^th in 17:01.0, and Nick Sergeant was 20^th in 17:27.5.

Neal and Piatt were named second-team all-NIC and Sergeant was named third-team all-NIC.

Penn defeated South Bend Clay, 58-0, in high school football action on Friday, Sept. 30.

Coach Eric Bowers’ Penn Boys Tennis Team defeated Marian, 5-0, to win the Sectional Championship on Thursday, Sept. 28.

Penn has now won 16 consecutive Boy Tennis Sectional Championships.

Penn's Volleyball team Traveled to South Bend to battle Northern Indiana Conference foe South Bend Adams as the Kingsmen aimed to keep their NIC record perfect.

The Kingsmen once again dominated a conference opponent with another three-game sweep. Penn swept Adams, 25-18, 25-14, 25-11.

Alyssa Torres slammed 12 kills in the Kingsmen win. Molly Pooler and Rachel Rupert each had 6 kills.

Naomi Williams ignited the Kingsmen with 33 assists.

Rachel Hickey led Penn with 14 digs.

The Kingsmen move to 25-4 on the year, 8-0 in NIC play. The Kingsmen travel to New Prairie to face the Cougars on Wednesday.

Penn High's Kingsmen celebrated Senior Night with a 2-0 victory against South Bend Adams on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Dorian Clayton scored on an assist from Sammy Atkins to put the Kingsmen up 1-0 in the 42nd minute. 

Hayden Hurn volleyed a screamer in the 58th minute as the Kingsmen pulled ahead of the Eagles, 2-0.

The Kingsmen move to 12-1-2, 8-1 in NIC play.

Penn stormed past Mishawaka, 5-0, on Wednesday, Sept. 27, to advance to the championship match of the Penn Tennis Sectional.

1. A.J. Antonelli (PENN) beat Brock Bollinger (Mishawaka) 6-0, 6-0.

2. Will Thurin (PENN) beat James Buchmann (Mishawaka) 6-0, 6-0.

3. Aidan Sucharetza (PENN) beat Uriah Liskow (Mishawaka) 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles

1. Eric Spaargaren/Aiden O'Day (PENN) beat Nathaniel Fry/Kyle Sears (Mishawaka) 6-0, 6-1.

2. Maity Spitters/Nick Casetti (PENN) beat Jacob Beshara/Dylan Armstrong (Mishawaka) 6-1, 6-2.

Coach Sarah Hendricks earned her 200th career victory as the Penn Kingsmen Volleyball Team traveled to New Prairie and defeated the host Cougars, 25-15, 23-25, 25-14 and 25-15, on Thursday, Sept. 27.

Alyssa Torres hammered 16 kills. Italia Fields and Rachel Rupert had 13 kills each. Ally Hickey 9 kills.

Naomi Williams had a tremendous 45 assist in the Kingsmen win.

Kylee Hixenbaugh had 21 digs. Naomi Williams had 19 digs, Rachel Hickey 18 digs, Julia Beers 16 digs.

Penn High School honored the Seniors on the 2017 Boys Soccer Team on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

In two seasons as upperclassmen on the varsity, the Kingsmen Seniors have  27 wins, 1 loss, 132 goals scored, and 15 goals allowed in the last two seasons.

No. 1-ranked Penn defeated South Bend Adams, 3-0, on Tuesday, Sept. 26, to clinch a share of the Northern Indiana Conference Girls Soccer Championship. Penn can wrap up the NIC crown outright on Thursday, Sept. 28, at Glenn.

Adams tested the Kingsmen early, but Penn broke through in the 65th minute with an unassisted goal by Florida State University recruit Kristina Lynch. 

Lynch made it 2-0 in the 74th minute off an assist by Maya Lacognato.

Kelsi Carrico scored off an assist from Lynch to make it 3-0 in the 74th minute.

The Kingsmen continue their amazing perfect run, moving to 15-0-1 overall and 8-0 in NIC play.

World-acclaimed violinist Rachel Barton Pine worked with the Penn Symphonic Orchestra students on Friday, Sept. 22.

Barton Pine visited Penn Orchestra Director Anne Tschetter’s class prior to Barton Pine’s concert at the Morris Performing Arts Center.

Winner of numerous international music awards, Barton Pine has recorded 32 CDs.  After working with Penn students, she treated the class to a performance of classical, heavy-metal rock and Scottish violin music.
