Beau Ludwick & Noah Krathwohl lead Penn Boys Basketball defensive effort in win vs. Glenn

A lock-down defensive effort spearheaded by Beau Ludwick and Noah Krathwohl highlighted Penn’s 64-40 victory against Glenn on Thursday, Jan. 11.

The Kingsmen handed Glenn its first loss in Northern Indiana Conference competition.

Penn improved to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the NIC.

Glenn is 8-3 overall and 5-1 in the NIC.

“Excellent defensive work by the Kingsmen was the key to an important NIC win,” Penn Head Coach Al Rhodes said. “Led by Beau Ludwick and Noah Krathwohl on Glenn’s top two scorers, the Kingsmen held Glenn to four points in the second quarter.

“Kegan Hoskins and Noah Applegate led a strong rebounding effort that triggered the Kingsmen fastbreak offense,” Rhodes continued. “This was an excellent team effort! The next game versus Carroll on Saturday will be another quality test for our team.”

Penn High School All-State Candidate Noah Applegate, a 6-foot-6 Junior wing, pumped in 21 points and soared for eight rebounds.

Kegan Hoskins muscled inside for nine points and 11 rebounds.

Drew Lutz scored 11 points and passed for eight assists.

Noah Krathwohl scored eight points.

Snowball Dance set for 7:30-11 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14

The SNOWBALL DANCE will be held on Sunday, Jan. 14, from 7:30-11 p.m. in the Main Arena at Penn High School.

Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased now online at Pennsnowball2018.eventbrite.com or tickets will be sold at Penn outside of the cafeteria only on Jan. 10, Jan. 11 and Jan. 12.

Sara Doi scores 21 points in Penn’s 65-25 victory against Merrillville in Girls Basketball

Sara Doi scored 21 points and the Penn Kingsmen rolled past Merrillville, 65-25, Tuesday, Jan. 9, in high school girls basketball action.

Reganne Pate scored 15. Trinity Clinton scored 7 points, Jordyn Smith, Tia Chambers and Grace Adams scored 6 points each.

Penn beat Merrillville 52-6 in the Junior Varsity Game.

Delayne Sanchez and Shelby Rowe scored 11 points each for the Kingsmen.

Penn Boys & Girls Swim Teams sweep Adams

Penn’s Boys and Girls Swim Teams dominated Northern Indiana Conference action against South Bend Adams on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

The Penn Boys Swim Team beat Adams 151-33. The Kingsmen Boys improved to 8-0 in the NIC with the victory.

The Penn Girls Swim Team beat Adams 141-39. The Kingsmen Girls improved to 9-0 in the NIC.

Evan Dies led the Kingsmen with three blue ribbons.

Matt Rach,  Aaron Dies,  Kyle Brothers,  Ethan Backhus,  Michael Adami and Lucas Evans placed first in two events each.

Joel Cummins, Matthew Pruitt, Troy Weber, Blake Trowbridge and Joseph Ferraro earned one blue ribbon each.

Sharon Ni was a winner in three events to lead the Penn Girls.

Makenna Bottorff,  Sophia Darr and Caroline Marks placed first in two events each.

Winning one event each were Maddie Ziegert, Lizzy Mejia, Charlotte White, Isabella Costa, Gabby Costa, Bailey Betzer, Megan Rach, Mackenzie Richards, Sydney Acito, Abby Meckstroth, Alyssa Richards, Logan Koszyk.

Noah Applegate scores 22 points to lead Penn effort against Valparaiso

Penn's Noah Applegate scored 22 points but the Valparaiso Vikings prevailed for a 76-61 victory in Boys Basketball action on Saturday, Jan. 6.

The Kingsmen trailed 40-27 at halftime, but fought back to close to 52-47 at the end of the third quarter.

Beau Ludwick's buzzer-beater 3 allowed the Kingsmen to cut the deficit to five points entering the fourth

quarter.

Penn (6-2) hosts Glenn on Thursday, Jan. 11.

Drew Lutz scored 18 points and passed for nine assists.

Beau Ludwick contributed 5 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists to the Kingsmen effort.
 

Kegan Hoskins scored 8 points.

 

Penn Girls Wrestling Team wins Regional Championship

Defending State Champion Penn won the Indiana High School Girls Wrestling North Regional Championship on Friday, Jan. 5.

The Kingsmen boasted five individual Regional Champions – Madison Burke, Mikayla Ringer, Jaden Johnson, Aiesha Helepa and Andelisia Henry.

Penn finished the meet with 154 points. The Top 5 included: 1. Penn 154; 2. Hamilton Heights 61; 3. Lafayette Jefferson 48; 4. New Prairie 41; 5. Indianapolis Pike 40.

Penn advances to the IHSGW State Championship on Friday, Jan. 12, at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis.

Balanced attack helps Penn Girls Basketball beat New Prairie

Penn used a balanced attack to defeat New Prairie, 65-21, in Girls Basketball action on Saturday, Jan. 6.

The Kingsmen improve to 9-0 in the Northern Indiana Conference and own a 16-1 record overall.

Sara Doi led Penn with 13 points.

Antreese Shelton and Jordyn Smith scored 8 points each.

Trinity Clinton scored 7 points.

Beau Ludwick’s double-double helps Penn Boys Basketball beat Adams

Penn blasted to a 21-4 run in the first quarter and stormed to a 71-59 victory against host South Bend Adams in Boys Basketball action on Friday, Jan. 5.

Penn is 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the Northern Indiana Conference.

Beau Ludwick worked for a double-double, scoring 10 points and battling for 10 rebounds.

Noah Applegate ignited the Kingsmen attack with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Applegate, a 6-foot-6 All-State candidate, stung the Eagles with a spectacular alley-oop slam dunk off a lob from Drew Lutz to highlight Penn's first-quarter effort.

Drew Lutz scored 17 points and kicked out 8 assists.

Noah Krathwohl scored 12 points.

Six Penn wrestlers rack up pins in 53-20 victory against Elkhart Central

Six Penn wrestlers posted pins as the Kingsmen defeated Elkhart Central, 53-20, on Thursday, Jan. 4, to stay undefeated in Northern Indiana Conference dual meets.

Tanner DeMien struck for a pin in 1:35 in the 126-weight class.

Logan Hill only needed 1:26 to pin his opponent at 132.

Preston Risner dominated for a pin in 4:00 at 138.

Austin Heater pulled off a pin in 5:54 at 152.

Max Chaffee scored a lightning-quick pin in :38 at 182.

Adam Berta earned a pin at 220.

Ryan Varner won by forfeit at 170.

Evan Light (113) won a 9-3 decision.

Vince Sparrow (120) won by technical fall.

Jeffrey Harper (145) won an 8-5 decision.

Sara Doi torches the nets for 26 points as Penn Girls Basketball beats Adams 71-19

Penn Senior Sara Doi torched the nets for 26 points as the Kingsmen Girls Basketball Team rolled to a 71-19 victory at South Bend Adams on Thursday, Jan. 4.

Reganne Pate scored 11 points for the Kingsmen.

Penn now owns an 8-0 record in the NIC. The Kingsmen are 15-1 overall.
