Advanced Child Development students create and implement lesson plans geared to help prepare potty-trained children, ages 4 – 5-years-old for kindergarten the following year. As a class, the focus is on intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and language development as well as soft skills. The program is in operation Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of every week for 29 weeks, from 8:30 – 9:45 a.m. The cost is $60 per semester as we provide snacks everyday.

  • It is very important that children be dropped off on time for PLAYSCHOOL and picked up on time afterwards!

  • A small circle drive at the southeast corner of the high school (enter off Jefferson Road) provides PLAYSCHOOL parents convenient access to the PLAYSCHOOL entrance at Door K, where high school students are stationed to assist parents. This map will help you find your way.

  • If you do not want your child’s picture taken and possibly posted on social media for observation and education purposes (children’s names are never listed), please note that on the enrollment form. We will make sure your privacy is respected.

TODDLER TIME

Child Development students are in charge of creating intellectual, social, emotional, and physical lesson plans and games to engage toddlers and their parents or caregivers.  It is a wonderful, hands-on experience for these eager students to incorporate all that we have discussed throughout the school year.  However, it is also a great way for our community to get a full grasp on the positive things happening in our school and for parents and young children to have interaction with other parents and children.  Also, the children truly seem to enjoy receiving instruction from high school students.  Enrollment is free and is open for 1 – 3-year-old children and a caregiver.

Dates and times:

GOLD DAYS: November 14, 16, 20, 22, 30 and December 4, 6, 8

  • Red group: 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
  • Orange group: 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

BLACK DAYS: November 15, 17, 21, 27 and December 1, 5, 7, 11

  • Yellow group: 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
  • Green Group: 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Children aged one to three are welcomed into the Child Development Classroom at Penn High School where they spend an hour interacting and playing with high school students, as their parents/caregivers remain close by. The setting is safe, the students are supervised, and the room is fun!

TODDLER TIME is conducted in eight sessions scheduled over a period of several weeks.

The program is free, but pre-registration is required.

Child Development students are in charge of creating intellectual, social, emotional, and physical lesson plans and games to engage 3 to 4-year-old children. Enrollment is for toddlers from ages 3 to 4-year-olds, and they must be potty-trained.  There is a one-time enrollment fee of $10 per child; snacks are provided.

Both TODDLER TIME and PLAYSCHOOL give the Child Development students at the high school an opportunity to plan intellectual, social, and physical development-based lessons, teach these lessons, and observe behaviors of young children.

Both programs are part of Penn High School’s Health and Human Services Academy and are under the direction of certified teacher Kylee Wetzel.  Mrs. Wetzel can be reached at (574) 259-7961, extension 20788 or click here to email her.
