Science Talk Club
Sponsor: Adam Beck
Meetings: Wednesdays after school lasting no later than 4 p.m. in Room 232.
The purpose of Science Talk is to generate a discussion on how humans have always tried to manipulate their environment to further their pursuits. This endeavor has not only allowed the human race to ease its existence, but it has produced some truly interesting stories. The race to synthesize new materials has allowed humanity to illuminate the night, and brought about the rise and fall of empires. New materials have also allowed people to live longer than Nature intended and condemned massive numbers of people to perish needlessly. Looking back at the history of these discoveries gives us insight on how best to introduce new materials to people today. Along with how new materials should be introduced come questions of whether some materials should be introduced at all.
