Exceptional Ed Academy students explore business opportunities

Posted on February 14, 2020

As part of the Exceptional Education Academy’s Career Exploration class, Penn students and staff were able to buy homemade “Pup Purr Pet Treats.” The treats were on sale today, Valentine’s Day, for $3.00 a bag.

This year the Exceptional Ed Academy is also operating a Coffee Cart at Penn. Students and staff can order espresso and other gourmet coffee treats and students in the Life Skills Employability class will deliver it right to the classroom!

The Ex Ed Academy offers a variety of career and life skills classes for students with disabilities. Underclassmen take the Life Skills Employability class and/or the Career Exploration class. Both classes offer in house activities and programs to teach students these skills in a school supportive environment. The intention is to help the students work towards the goal of being able to participate in an off-site work placement job at a community partner businesses. Both experiences will allow students to understand production, pricing and sales.

The programs were able to offer the Coffee Cart and the “Pup Purr Pet Treats” this year thanks to a $1,000 P-H-M Education Foundation grant awarded in the fall.
