College Financial Aid Forms
FAFSA – The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This is the only form that will qualify college students for both state and federal financial aid, grant, and work study eligibility. We urge all students/parents to file this application, even if they know they won’t qualify for federal or state funding. Some merit-based scholarships require this information and family circumstances may change due to unforseen events.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is due between 1/1 and 3/10/12. Click the links below to apply:
Step 1: Apply for a PIN (Personal Identification Number)
Step 2: Complete the FAFSA on line
To be considered for Indiana State Financial Assistance, the FAFSA must be received by the federal processor on or before March 10. For State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSAC) state grant eligibility determination, any issues or corrections needing to be resolved on the FAFSA must be correctly resolved by May 15 for the student to remain in the state grant applicant pool.
Beginning in 2010 SSACI will no longer use paper edit letters or award letters to communicate with students applying for state grant funding. SSACI will use emails to alert students of changes that need to be made with their FAFSA or in notifying them of their state grant eligibility. However, beginning mid February 2010 it is the student’s ultimate responsibility to periodically review their state grant file on eStudent www.ssaci.in.gov/estudent, to keep abreast of any action they need to take before SSACI’s correction deadline (May 15, 2010), or to help navigate through the state grant awarding process that would keep the student if otherwise eligible from receiving state grant aid funding for college. Therefore please encourage your students to put an email address on their FAFSA, that they check their email address regularly, and to visit wwww.ssaci.in.gov/student to activate their state grant account for their review.
CSS FINANCIAL AID PROFILE – The CSS Profile is a supplemental financial aid application (in addition to the FAFSA) that is required by some colleges and scholarship organizations. (Examples are Butler, Notre Dame, St. Mary’s, Holy Cross and the Scholarship Foundation of St. Joseph County.) The profile provides more detailed financial information, and does not take place of the FAFSA. This form can be completed on-line at www.collegeboard.com. The cost is $23 for one profile and $18 for each additional one. Guide booklets are available in Guidance.
