Penn High School Symphonic Choir performs in Carnegie Hall
The ninety voice Penn Symphonic Choir participated in a sold out performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana on February 14 in historic Carnegie Hall. New York Concert Review Critic, Harry Saltzman writes After hearing this concert, I am happy to report that high quality choral singing in the United States is flourishing. Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) is to be lauded for bringing fine amateur choruses to New York. Performing were six choirs totaling two hundred voices, full orchestra and three soloists, all under the masterful direction of Vance George, DCINY Conductor.
The singers spent five days and four nights in New York City in preparation for their concert approximately 9-10 hours in rehearsals over the five days residency. Not all the time was spent in rehearsals, since there is so much history and culture to enjoy in New York City; however, the performance in Carnegie Hall was the primary purpose for the visit. Performing for a capacity audience of 2,800 in
Carnegie Hall was very special and the highlight of the visit.
